Reviews Overview

Most Liked

One standout aspect of No. 12 Fish & Chips is the quality of the food. Diners rave about the perfectly cooked, lightly battered cod, hailed as one of the best in town. The portion sizes are generous, providing great value for the money spent, often around £7.85 for a main dish. The traditional British chips are fresh and seasoned delightfully with salt and vinegar, capturing the essence of a classic chippy. The variety of options also impresses, from fish cakes to vegetarian sausages, ensuring everyone finds something appealing. Additionally, customers appreciate the clean environment and warm service, creating a pleasant takeaway experience.

Most Disliked

While most feedback is positive, some diners noted occasional inconsistencies in service speed, particularly during busy periods like Saturday evenings. This can lead to longer wait times, which some customers find frustrating. The standard catering sausages in the battered sausage dish have drawn mixed reviews; while some enjoy the flavor, others expect a higher quality sausage. A handful of diners have also expressed a desire for more unique flavor offerings or gourmet twists on classic meals, feeling that the menu could benefit from a touch more creativity. Despite these minor critiques, most agree that the overall experience remains satisfactory.

Went on a Sunday evening, so perhaps a bit quiet. However, cleanest fish and chips I have had in a long time - fish was really nicely cooked, as was the batter, and the chips were hot and lacking both grease and black eyes (though that may just have been a lucky batch of potatoes). Definitely going back, and very relieved to have found a good chippy close enough to my house to be relevant.

Visiting the area with my partner so we had quite a decent spread from across the ‘usual’ menu items. The chips were tasty, classic chip shop style chips, freshly fried and with lashings of salt a vinegar. Battered sausage was nicely battered, not thickly coated and nicely crispy. The sausage itself was the standard catering sausage but with the batter it was nicely elevated. The saveloy was nicely flavourful, exactly as you would expect. It was also freshly prepared so the casing wasn’t tough from being sat under a heat lamp. That may be a good or bad thing for some people, depending how you prefer it. Bread roles were nice and thick, nicely buttered. They were wrapped in paper not plastic so didn’t pick up any plastic flavour which was refreshing. The highlight was the large battered cod. Price wise it was excellent value at £7.85. The batter was delicious, light and crispy. Cooked fresh to order, it was a nice piece of fish. One of the best battered cod pieces I’ve had a long time.

Went here quite late on Saturday, only ordered regular chips and they were super fresh and piping hot. Very fast service and a good amount of salt/vinegar placed on the chips…definitely will be back for chips again if I’m passing.
